Hello there, welcome to my story.
My name is Julie and my candle making journey began after I gave up my job and moved from Wales to a pretty little village called Gorsley near Ross-On-Wye, Herefordshire. Ross-On-Wye is located midway between the towns of Hereford and Gloucester and is known as the Gateway to the Wye Valley.
I have always been a creative person but never dreamed that one day it would become a business. It all started after reading a book on candle making which I received as a Christmas present from my husband. I couldn't put the book down and stayed up until the early hours to finish reading it. This book had sparked something inside of me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I found it fascinating, and I was excited to learn more. The next day and the months to follow I found myself researching, there was so much more to candle making than I had ever imagined. After weeks of researching I was ready to start testing.
After much research I decided to use soy wax. So why soy you ask? Soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from soybeans. Soy wax burns slower than paraffin wax, lasts longer, burns cleaner and results in less soot than paraffin. I wanted the best for my home and my family.
The testing commenced and I was hooked! It was a long process but after months and months of testing I finally made my perfect scented candle. It wasn't an easy process, it was challenging and frustrating. There were tears, lots of tears but I also found it extremely rewarding and absolutely loved it!
The next stage was to choose which scents to start with. It was an easy choice, we were in lockdown at the time so I started creating scents that helped you get through the day, scents that invigorated and uplifted you or relaxed and calmed you. As the months went on, we were still in lockdown, all trips/holidays were cancelled so I decided to create scents that would transport you to another place or time, a memory, a holiday in the sun, or a walk in the woods. Scent is powerful and has a wonderful way of triggering forgotten memories.
In November 2020 Danzo Candle Company was born. I never thought that I would ever own my own business, I still pinch myself, even now. I finally found something that I love and am passionate about.
From my home to yours, I hope my candles bring you the joy and calm they have brought me and you enjoy them as much as I have loved making them.
